Echoes reflects the rich history and creative legacy of Holy Cross College Art Department’s annual end-of-year exhibitions. Since 2011, these exhibitions have transformed a range of local venues — from shopping centres and historic mills to industrial warehouses — into spaces for artistic engagement and celebration.

Over the years, thousands of student works have contributed to an evolving creative archive. Recurring ideas, materials, and processes emerge across generations of makers, revealing the subtle “echoes” of past work within contemporary practice and highlighting how creativity resonates over time.

Echoes celebrates the commitment, curiosity, and ambition that define student practice. The works presented here represent months of research, reflection, exploration, and development, while marking an important stage in each student's creative journey.

As both a reflection on the department’s history and a celebration of its future, Echoes recognises the lasting impact of creative endeavour and the continuing dialogue between past and present students.

ART

art

Our Art course is built around the belief that creativity thrives through curiosity, experimentation and the development of individual ideas. We encourage students to be ambitious, take risks and create daring work that challenges both themselves and their audiences. As the most open and flexible of our creative courses, Art offers students the freedom to explore their own interests, processes and materials, leading to a rich diversity of outcomes and exciting, highly personal projects.

Our Textiles course celebrates the creative potential of materials and the importance of process-led exploration. Through experimentation, manipulation and making, students develop a deep understanding of textile processes, allowing ideas to evolve organically through the material itself. The work featured in this exhibition demonstrates how exploratory and experimental approaches can lead to a diverse range of outcomes, from innovative fashion pieces to ambitious fine art textile responses.
